Etymology

Borrowed from a Chuvash-type Turkic language before the times of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin (at the turn of the 9th and 10th centuries). Compare Turkish boğa, Old Turkic 𐰉𐰆𐰸𐰀 (buqa, bull), Mongolian бух (buh). The borrowed form into Hungarian was probably *bïqa. [1] Perhaps from Proto-Turkic *buka.
