Definition 2024
تحت
تحت
Arabic
Adverb
تَحْتُ • (taḥtu)
Usage notes
This originates as a case form of a defective noun تَحْت (taḥt, “location that is below”). It is declined normally when definite, e.g. التَّحْتُ (at-taḥtu, “the location that is below”). Other forms are the adverbial accusative in the preposition تَحْتَ (taḥta, “below”), the genitive in the expression مِنْ تَحْتِ (min taḥti, “from below, below”) (also with an attached pronoun, as in مِنْ تَحْتِهَا (min taḥtihā, “(from) below it”)), and the irregular expression مِنْ تَحْتُ (min taḥtu, “(from) below”).
