Etymology

Adonc derived փարչ ‎(pʿarčʿ) from Persian پارچه, without giving the latter's meaning and reading. Because Ačaṙean did not find that word in his standard Persian dictionary (GD), he left the origin of փարչ ‎(pʿarčʿ) open.

Having later discovered the Persian word in the form of پارچ ‎(pârč, “jug, pitcher”) in modern Persian dictionaries, Mkrtčʿyan confidently derives the Armenian from it, as do Łazaryan and Avetisyan.
