An Iranian borrowing. Compare Middle Persian šnwhl ‎(šnōhr, “gratitude, contentment”), Manichaean Middle Persian ʿšnwhr ‎(išnōhr, “grace; gratitude”), Manichaean Parthian ʿšnwhr ‎(išnōhr, “grace; gratitude”), Avestan [script needed] ‎(xšnaoϑra-, “satisfaction”).
