From Old Armenian կոմս ‎(koms), from Classical Syriac ܩܘܡܝܣ ‎(qōmēs), from Ancient Greek κόμης ‎(kómēs, “head of an administrative division or chief court official”), from Latin comes ‎(“companion, follower”).
