In Bashkir, the initial d- and the retension of -g- point to a old loan from an Oghuz or Uyguric source; the expected Kypchak reflex should be tüy- (as attested in Karachay-Balkar, Nogai tüy ‎(“millet”)). Also consider the related Bashkir verb stem töy- ‎(“thresh, pound”) (from Old Turkic tög- ‎(“id.”)).
