Cognate with West Frisian flot (“raft”), German Low German Flott, Flött (“raft”), Old English flot (“sea”), Old English flota (“ship; vessel; fleet”), Old Norse flot (“that which floats; grease”), Icelandic floti (“fleet”). Also related to German Floß (“raft”), Old English flīete (“that which floats; boat; raft; cream”), Danish flåde (“raft”), Swedish flotte (“raft”).
