Etymology

Either from a Vulgar Latin root *subvolvere, from Latin volvere (it is uncertain if the root is the same as the attested Latin verb subvolvere, present infinitive of subvolvō ‎(“roll up, along, or uphill”), given the difference in meanings, or simply a later construction), or alternatively from învoalbe with a change in prefix.
