From a phonetic adaptation of Englishrickshaw, from Japanese力車(りきしゃ, rikisha), an abbreviation of 人力車(じんりきしゃ, jinrikisha, literally “vehicle pulled by a person's power”), from Middle Chinese人(nyin, “person”) + 力(lik, “strength, power”) + 車(tsyhæ, “cart, vehicle”).
