  1. (obsolete) A parhelion. Some historical works expressed the meaning of this term as a false or mock sun.
    • 1873, John Hill Burton, The history of Scotland, Volume 5, p. 169:
      " [] even then he began, and with that noble personage, to clasp some one gratioso in the embraces of his great love, who was, unto him as a parelius,—that is, when the sun finds a cloud so fit to be illustrated by his beams that it looks almost like another sun."
