Cognate with Old High German wīla (German Weile), Old Saxon hwīla (Middle Low German wîl), Dutch wijl, Gothic 𐍈𐌴𐌹𐌻𐌰 (ƕwila), Old Norse hvíla (Swedish vila). Cognate with Albanian sillë (“breakfast, farmer's food”) and the second element of Latin tranquillus.
