half-timbering ‎(uncountable)

1. (architecture) A method of construction using heavy timber beams, usually joined by tenon and mortice joints pegged together. The spaces between the posts and beams is infilled with material such as wattle and daub, bricks or stones. Half timbering is one type of timber framing.
