Etymology

Probably ultimately from Latin famelicus, through a Vulgar Latin root *flamenicus, or alternatively from a root *famulentus, from famis (compare Italian famulento), through an intermediate form *flamuentus. A less likely origin is flammabundus. Compare Aromanian flãmuntu.
