cœlestial

English

Adjective

cœlestial (not comparable)

  1. Archaic spelling of celestial.
    • 1678, John Bunyan, The Pilgrim's Progress, Elliot Stock (1876), page 16:
Then ſaid Good Will, Alaſs poor Man, is the Cœleſtial Glory of ſo ſmall eſteem with him, that he counteth it not worth running the hazards of a few difficulties to obtain it.

Usage notes

  • This spelling is etymologically inconsistent, and may be considered an erroneous variant of cælestial. The latter, however, is not so common as this spelling.
