- (medicine, biochemistry, organic chemistry) An antimalarial drug derived from the sweet wormwood shrub, Artemisia annua, found as the active ingredient in traditional Chinese medical herbal treatment for malaria, chemically a sesquiterpene lactone; a group of compounds chemically related to the drug.
