-mattomuus / -mättömyys (with back / front vowels)

1. A deverbal suffix that, when attached to the stem of a verb, transforms the verb to a noun which means lack of activity, failure or refusal to do something. The stem is often modified in the process.
   • juoda -> juomattomuus = to drink -> the state or property of being without drink
