Etymology 2

According to Godel, from Proto-Indo-European *-smē̆. A trace of the final vowel perhaps survives in ումե-ք (ume-kʿ), ումե-մն (ume-mn). Compare the following cognates: Old Armenian դմա (dma), այդմ (aydm), Sanskrit तस्मै (tasmai), Gothic 𐌸𐌰𐌼𐌼𐌰 (þamma). See also ում (um).
