1. futon, a Japanese style mattress and duvet used in tatami rooms.

   布団 (ふとん)を敷 (し)く。

   Futon o shiku.

   To make the bed.

   布団 (ふとん)をあげる。

   Futon o ageru.

   Put away the bedding.

Usage notes

• 布団 refers to the mattress itself, which in Japan is the entire bed – there is no wooden bed frame as in Western beds or Western-style futons.
