Usage notes

• The letter ຣ is officially obsolete yet remains in widespread use. Words spelled with ຣ all have an equivalent spelled with ລ which is nominally more official or standard. Which is more popular for a given Lao word is partly arbitrary.

• Other spellings exist in dictionaries and are due to borrowing from English, yet they are seldom used: ຍຸໂຣບ ‎(nyu rōp), ຍູໂລບ ‎(nyū lōp), ຢຸຣົບ ‎(yu rop). ຢຸໂຣບ ‎(yu rōp).
