פיחד \ פִּחֵד • ‎(pikhéd) ‎(pi'el construction)

1. To fear, to be afraid or scared.
   • Proverbs 28:14 (with translation from the King James Version of the Bible):

     אַשְׁרֵי אָדָם מְפַחֵד תָּמִיד וּמַקְשֶׁה לִבּוֹ יִפּוֹל בְּרָעָֽה׃

     'ashréi 'adhám m'faḥédh tamídh umaqshé libbó yippól b'rá`a.

     Happy is the man that feareth alway but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

     כל העולם כולו, גשר צר מאד, והעיקר לא לפחד כלל.

     kol ha'olam kuló, gésher tzar m'od, v'ha'ikár lo l'fakhéd klal.

     The whole world is a very narrow bridge, and the main thing is not to fear at all.

• In modern use, this verb is perhaps slightly more colloquial than the synonymous פָּחַד ‎(pakhád).
