חָרָה • ‎(khará) ‎(pa'al construction, future יֶחֶרֶה or יִּחַר)

1. (dated, Biblical Hebrew) to be angry
   • Genesis 4:5, with translation of the English Standard Version:

     וְאֶל־קַיִן וְאֶל־מִנְחָתֹו לֹא שָׁעָה וַיִּחַר לְקַיִן מְאֹד וַֽיִּפְּלוּ פָּנָֽיו׃‎

     but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell.

   • Jonah 4:4, with translation of the New International Version:

     וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה הַהֵיטֵב חָרָה לָֽךְ׃‎

     But the LORD replied, “Is it right for you to be angry?”

2. (Biblical Hebrew) to be burned
   • Isaiah 24:6, with translation of the New International Version:

     […] עַל־כֵּן חָרוּ יֹשְׁבֵי אֶרֶץ וְנִשְׁאַר אֱנֹושׁ מִזְעָֽר׃‎

     […] Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.
